How To Take A Copy Of A Key | Mr Locksmith White Rock

https://mrlocksmithwhiterock.com/

Sending a locksmith the picture of a key can help us identify the key or lock. This may seem like a silly video, but it’s actually very important. I made the “How to Take a Picture of a Key” to help our customers.

  1. Take an in-focus picture of the key.
  2. Take a picture of both sides of the key.
  3. Remove any tape or obstruction covering the head of the key.
  4. If possible a picture of the end of the key.
  5. In-focus pictures of the key.

Key Copy Near Me

A lot of times customers ask Where can I get a “key copy near me’”  “I need my locks rekeyed.” or “Duplicate Key” and then they try to describe it to me. Sometimes they can, sometimes they can’t, sometimes there’s no information that you can see, but I can see. So, a lot of times we ask our customers “Take a picture, take an in-focus picture of the key.” So we ask our customers, email or just text me, a picture of your key. So this is how to take a picture of your key so I can see what you have. You gotta take both sides of the key. So take a picture there, so I can see what the make is, I can look at some of the grooves and then turn the key over and take a picture again, and then I can see from the other side I know it’s a Schlage, and on this I can see it’s a C123. So I can tell you “Yes I have that key.” So whatever key you have, whether it’s a car key, or house key, motorcycle, whatever, in focus, both sides of the key, then you can email it to me or a locksmith and we can tell you if we have that key.

Sometimes we’ve had people on fishing expeditions up north, they’ve taken their keys with them they’re in the middle up north, in the middle of nowhere, the wife is locked out, they have the key, and this one, we can actually see this one has a code, so we now know we can cut that by code and we can get that person in the house really quick and easy.

In conclusion, silly as it sounds “how to take a picture of a key”, in focus, both sides of the key, text or email, then we can tell you what you have. [email protected]

Amazon’s Ring video doorbells catch fire! Can’t Fix Stupid | Mr. Locksmith White Rock

Amazon’s Ring video doorbells catch fire! Can’t Fix Stupid | Mr. Locksmith White Rock

Ring Video Doorbell Fire, Ring and Nest are the two major video doorbell products. Ring Video Doorbell has sold approximately 8,700 units in Canada.

For further information go to https://mrlocksmithwhiterock.com/

I have tried them both and they do what they say they are going to do. But what’s interesting, this is the Ring notice on it. But there’s been this doorbell 2nd generation tool has been linked to numerous fires throughout the US and Canada. I don’t know about Canada so much, but I know in the U S. Now Ring has not done a recall on this. They have sent out a notice, and we’ll put the link here on the video saying what the problem is. And it’s an interesting problem. So again, this is not really Ring’s problem. What is happening, and I’ll pull this apart here, is people are, it has a little battery pack and you can chargeable batteries or replace them or whatever. But there’s a machine screw that covers the battery pack. Well, what people who have been purchasing this have been doing, instead of the machine screw, they’re taking the longer wood screw screwing it into the housing, and it goes into the batteries and that’s what’s causing the short or the heating and is causing the fires. They have not done a product recall (update Ring has just announced a recall), and I can understand. You can’t fix stupid. The people are going to you know if you have a machine screw and they throw a wood screw in there is that really their fault that customers are stupid. However, we call it regression towards the mean somebody you’ve got to design stuff so stupid people can’t hurt themselves. So I grabbed this Ring video doorbell that is has a battery pack. And this is generation two which they say is the problem.

Let’s see what we got. Never unboxed this one, this is brand new. So there is the Ring. For simple, easy to do, this one is not expensive. I think they’re blowing them out the door cheap right now. It’s not an expensive doorbell. It’s like 100, $150, but it’s, again, it’s not a recall. They’re just saying, and I always loved they come with a nice little kit here, a little, you know it’s got everything in here to install it quite easily. And this is the one for people who don’t have. You have the battery pack because you don’t have the doorbell wires leading to your doorbell. So this is really good with the battery pack for people who don’t have the wired system to the front door. Here is the little machine screws. So there’s one little tiny machine screw, these three other screws.

Ring-Video-Door-Bell-Fire-Screws

Ring Video Door Bell Screws

Ring-Video-Doorbell-Fire

Ring Video Doorbell can catch fire if wooden screws are used instead of machine screws

Ring Video Doorbell Fire

It’s well packaged, Well, you know, well-designed like under $150, I think they’re on sale even less. Let’s warn everybody we have a video. The secret to these things really is they want you on the monthly plan. You can’t blame them for that. They wanna make money. This is a good little kit. Oh, even a little level. Oh my goodness, they got a little bit of everything in here. When you install this, with the wired system or the unwired, there are two areas they can make a mistake on. What’s happening is there, people are taking the woodscrew and there’s when they put this on the door, instead of, this is how you slow people down from stealing it. You put in the little screws on the bottom. So there are two little machine screws, go on the bottom. If you put in the two screws, it slows them down. They have to have a Torx, a small Torx. There are two little Torx screws that go in the bottom. Now what’s happening is people are either losing these because when you try, you’re trying to install this upside down and backward, you know, upside down on your door and you’re gonna lose these little screws. Yeah, it’s just a fact of life. You gotta drop them. People are dropping them, losing them. And whether they’re doing is taking the longer screw putting it into the bottom. And they’re tightening that screw all the way into the battery pack. So it’s not really Ring’s fault. So that’s why it’s, there’s a warning out to the public from Ring on this problem. And this is basically, is just basically people who don’t know the difference between a machine screw and a wood screw and people being stupid and forcing this thing. You really got to crank this to go in there and destroy that lock or destroy the battery pack. It’s a good product. I like their products, they’re good. It’s not a, it’s not a Ring problem.

Ring recalls 350,000 smart doorbells after some of them caught fire

The potential fire hazard impacts around 350,000 2nd generation Ring doorbells sold in the United States and roughly 8,700 more sold in Canada, according to a notice posted by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on Tuesday. The $100 doorbells were sold on Ring’s website and on Amazon (AMZN) between June 2020 and October 2020, according to the CPSC.
“The video doorbell’s battery can overheat when the incorrect screws are used for installation, posing fire and burn hazards,” the notice said.

If you have a sticky lock, whether it’s on your house, your business, a padlock, or your car door, a car ignition is different, if you have a sticky lock, there is a couple of solutions you can do.

Never, never put oil, or linseed oil, or motor oil, or sewing machine oil, or even graphite. Graphite, do not put that into your lock. Now, WD-40 is penetrating oil. It’s fantastic for getting a sticky lock unstuck but is not a lubricant.

My favorite for a lock is Tri-Flow, just love this stuff. Put a little spray, it does not take a lot, just put a little spray into your lock and it will be fantastic. Or now you know Lock Saver, there’s Houdini. I don’t have any Houdini handy, but this is my go-to is Tri-Flow. So again, WD-40 for sticky locks. It will unstick it, but it’s not gonna lubricate it. Tri-Flow will lubricate the lock perfectly.

Do not use graphite, graphite is bad for you. It’s not good for the locks. It’s an old way of lubricating locks, don’t do it. So go to Tri-Flow. If the lubricant does not work, it could because your key is old and worn, especially on cars we find that a lot. So cutting you a brand new key to factory code, the lock usually works perfectly after that. So it could be a worn key.

Your lock could be worn and the lubricant may be a temporary fix, but it is not going to fix the problem. You have an old lock on your door or the padlock’s old, it’s worn out, you need a new lock. And sometimes, especially with the Honda ignitions, the high security, sometimes the ignition needs to be, the parts, replaced, and you would need a new key because those things just seem to wear out.

How to Fix a Sticky lock

How to Fix a Sticky lock White Rock

The other issue could be that the door is sticking. So it could be the hinges are dropping, or what really happens, with the change of weather, is the latch, or the deadbolt specifically, is not lined up anymore with the hole. So I have a few more videos on how to fix that. But the way to see if it is the problem is the door frame is open the door and does the key work the lock perfectly? So if the door is open and you can turn the lock perfectly and then when you close the door and it does not lock, then the problem is with your door frame. However, if you open the door, try the key, and it’s still jammed, then the problem is your door.

Locked Out because of a Sticky Lock?

In conclusion, do not use WD-40, oil, linseed oil and do not use sewing machine oil. WD-40 is, a penetrating oil, it’s good but it is not going to lubricate your lock. Use a Lubricant that is meant for locks, Tri-Flow is my favorite. Lock Saver and Houdini are good.

If you have any recommendations, put it at the bottom. So this will help you with sticky locks.

Rekey Old Style Weiser Locks Key in Knobs | White Rock

Rekey Old Style Weiser Locks Key in Knobs White Rock

Rekey Old Style Weiser Locks Mr. Locksmith White Rock (604) 210-9875

Lots of these Rekey old style Weiser Locks Key-in-Knobs still in use. Rekeying Locks

Rekey Old Style Weiser Locks Key-in-knobs where extremely popular long, long time ago, it was everywhere in North America. Nowadays we see less and less of them, but it’s still important to know how to rekey it. One of the key parts is identifying it. Basically, it could be a knob like that, different colors, it could be an orbit, circular, just different styles of the rose and how the lock comes out. Now one way of identifying it was, a lot of them have the push and turn lock. So on the inside to lock it, you just push and turn, and then when the key goes in, here, you turn the key, it just turns a little bit. It just pops it out and then the lock is unlocked.

Now one of the big problems of Rekey Old Style Weiser Key in Knobs is when this handle gets old, it just stays in, so the customer’s turning the key, and the key turns but the lock won’t come undone. That’s another issue, on how to get through that, but right now we’re just going to show you how to rekey them. So to rekey the lock is quite simple, there are just two small screws on here. Go ahead and take the knob off. Just loosen it a little bit, loosen the other one. You have to come in on an angle to get it out. I had somebody ask me once, “Do you have a screwdriver that will do this easier?” And I’m going, no, this is the way it is, unfortunately. Again, the brand name is Weiser, they never, we see a lot of Weiser locks now which are actually Kwikset locks, this was never part of Kwikset, so it only says Weiser, Weiser locks. It takes the Weiser key, in a pinch, you shouldn’t do it, but in a pinch you can use a Kwikset key, but that’s not proper. So basically the knob was just lock-in, and what always happens is that little spring in there would just wear out. Now they used to sell a kit, extra springs, but that was back in the day when you did a lot of repairs, and the people would replace the spring. So the lock is very simple. Take it out; now another way of identifying this, how to take it apart, is there are no holes anywhere, to press the retainer in to remove this cylinder, or the knob. In the back here, see how it’s springy? What we have to do to remove this, we have to hold this out, and then, you see when it was locked, the key only turns that far, to unlock the door. When we wanna rekey it, we pull out the rear post, and at basically the five o’clock, 10 to five position, and it just comes out. And you can see here we can take our bible, to put it back together again, we have our bible, we have the little slot there in the knob, so we’ll put it back at 10 to five, that’s the time I call it, hold out the little post again, and you put it in at 10 to five, and basically put it back in. Sometimes it can be sticky, but the biggest problem is just pull that out, turn it, boom. If you don’t have a key, now it gets a little bit more difficult, but again, it’s a Weiser, it’s extremely easy to pick, just pick it to that position, just pick it over, just hold the post out, pick it to the 10 to five position, and sometimes you can push on this a little bit and it will push out the cylinder. Now to rekey it is interesting. Now if you don’t have key, if you have a key you can take it apart, but if you don’t have a key you have to shim it, and again, it’s a Weiser, it’s easy to pick, easy to shim. So we got the cylinder, so to take out the plug, got the little circlip, and I love this, this is Snap-on, it lasts me forever, and if it breaks they give me a new one. Just gently, just open it up just that little bit. Insert your key, turn it slightly, I have an HPC, hollow follower, just fits on there really nice. And it’s five pins. And we have done enough rekeying videos, this one’s lucky, it’s got the, got the code on there, it’s a direct code. We can just pin it up with the lab kit, and then when you put it back in, just make sure you put it on a slight angle and just put the plug back into the cylinder. Take out the key. I am doing this for the camera, but it’s best to put it on your desk flat. I got my little Snap-on tool. Again, don’t go crazy on opening this, and just put it back on. Always test, test, test. Sounds perfect, clips on good. Now I put it in the 10 to five position. Put my bible into the little spot there. And give it a little twist to make sure that the little post has engaged the back of the lock. So again, there are some different methods, this is the simplest, pull out the post, hold it, some people put a pair of pliers on the back, turn it, now this one did come out extremely easy, let me show you a tougher one here. So that one’s really easy. Here’s another one, this is a real old one I got kicking around. Old one with a new insert. How does this one? See, this one’s not coming out so easy. So again, I’ll just push on the post a little bit, there we go. So basically I’m just pushing on that, and it just pushes it out. So this one’s a little bit more awkward and tougher. And it goes in okay. Rekey Old Style Weiser Key in Knobs. Still see them out there, and you could also see different colors and a different knob style, but again, the secret is it’s got the post on the back.

How to Make Keys to Cars, Automotive ONLINE COURSE

I rented this Volvo and it’s got the keys on a ring and somebody said just keep on twisting it, so I can get them apart, rather than try and cut it or find some pliers. So, I just twist and twist and twist like a figure eight and I got them apart. It is a lot better and I hate it when you rent a car, you have two keys stuck together. If I lose it, I lose ’em both. So, this way, simple. Just keep on twisting it, like a figure eight, ’til they pull apart. You don’t have to run around, trying to find a pair of pliers or anything. You just twist, pull apart. I had a friend, lost two keys, lost his whole set, lost two keys, it cost him $450, cost him over $600 to replace the keys and get them reprogrammed. So, this is a Volvo. This probably costs way more than that. Worst case, I gotta replace one, I don’t have to replace two. I hate that. You rent a car, it comes with that stupid tag, but just twist it, pull it and away we go. We could use a pair of pliers, but this is definitely easier and quicker.

During the Pandemic Lockdown, we had so many break-ins on apartment buildings. They’re stealing the mail, they’re after the GST, they’re after the checks, they’re after whatever checks are coming in. We know for the next several months there’s gonna be a lot of people getting checks, so all the mailboxes getting broken into, we’ve secured this door better. It’s with an astragal. It will stop them from prying. They got the cameras have caught the people. Not caught, they videoed them breaking in. They’re just using little pry bars. They’re spreading the door. With the security plate, it stops them from spreading the door. So, it’s called an astragal or a security plate, whatever you want. This is made out of steel, it is a full length, and it slows them down from prying open the door.

Mr. Locksmith White Rock (604) 210-9875

We have had so many break-ins on apartment buildings that are stealing the mail. The criminal are after the GST cheques and trying to steal ID. We know for the next several months, there is going to be a lot of people getting checks, so all the mailboxes are getting broken into. We have secured this door better. It’s with Astragal Security Plate. It will prevent the criminals from prying the gap between the doors. The security camera has caught people on video, not caught, they video them breaking in. They are just using little pry bars they’re spreading the door. With these security plates, it stops them from spreading the door. It is called an Astragal or called a security plate, whatever you want. This is made out of steel. It’s a full length, and it slows them down from prying open the door. This is a typical apartment building and we have a rash, always a rash of break-ins.

To install the Astragal / Security Plate we are going remove all the hardware, and install a full-length Astragal. Remove all the existing hard, door push plates, bars and on some install we remove the lock too. This door has an electronic access control system so we are not reinstalling the door cylinder and in this case they only had a dummy cylinder. I like to install the top of the security plate and let gravity help to line up and mark the holes. I prefer to use sex bolts because it makes a nice flush mount. Do not use pop rivets to secure the plate to the door.

Bike Lock vs Cordless Grinder | Mr. Locksmith™ White Rock

Locksmith Courses and How to Pick Locks: http://mrlocksmithtraining.com/

How to Make Keys to Cars, Automotive Locksmith ONLINE COURSE

Open U Lock with a cordless grinder with a cutting wheel.

Open bike lock with a cordless grinder.

I use a Milwaukee Cordless Grinder with a cutting wheel to open most if not all Bike Locks. Just be careful where the sparks go, avoid flammable or plastics that can burn or pit. Wear Gloves and Safety glasses.

One of the best tools in the whole world is a cordless grinder with a cutting wheel. This saves my butt all the time. I could use a big pair of bolt cutters on this, but sometimes I find, when you use the bolt cutter, you can get a piece flying off and it could break a window or something or hurt somebody. I like this, you just have to be aware of the sparks will wreck your shirt. Also, you cannot be by anything flammable or anything plastic or anything glass. So just be really careful when the sparks shoot off of this thing. Usually, I aim the sparks so they go down, usually, it’s okay. So I am just going to cut off this inexpensive bike lock, I am going to use my cordless grinder. I always like to secure whatever I am cutting. I like to secure with a pair of vise grips. Now, wear your safety glasses, I always wear my gloves, just in case. Now, this is interesting. The battery is just a little tiny efficiency one. It is not big enough, not enough amperage, I guess to run the cordless grinder. So I am going to change my, swap my battery out. It’s the first time doing it with a little one. I just thought, “Oh, let’s give it a try.” Yes, look at that and look at, just sucking up the power on this. So I am going to just swap out the battery with a bigger one. I have heard about some people having some trouble with other tools. I have never had a problem with the drill. This is basically double. This is the bigger one. I have never had a problem using this. This is the first time using that. Let’s just swap it out real quick. Full power. And let’s finish it off. There we go. And remember this is hot hot hot. Don’t touch the ends, be careful you don’t burn off the bike. Yes, I could have picked this. It requires a special pick, it’s not that difficult, but I’m a for-profit locksmith. I am not going to make keys to this, it’s disposable. I think they paid 10 bucks for this. It costed more for the service call to get it off, but we didn’t destroy the bike. So, again, you could pick some of these, you could do whatever. My bottom line is I have to get this done fast and efficient and I just cut it off.

“How to Become an Automotive Locksmith” https://www.mrlocksmithtraining.com/product/certificate-automotive-locksmithing/

I bought the wrong inverter. I wanted to be able to put it in my service truck or my camper or whatever, but this is for my service truck. So I wanted to be able to take 12 volts from the battery and be able to plug in 110 key machines. Now, in theory, this is a great deal. This was on sale for like $100, it is a 12 volt to 110 volt Modified sine wave 2,000-watt inverter, it’s more than I need, it’s going be perfect for my key machines. So I thought. I’m not an expert on inverters but the first thing I learned is there are actually two types: Modified Sine Wave and Pure Sine Wave

That will be great for the key machines. However, this is a modified sine and what I need is the pure or the regular Sine Wave. So the problem you’ll run across between the regular wave which is considered clean, and this modified one which is squared off is the modified wave is not good for if you are running computers. So it’s not as clean. That’s why they’re really inexpensive. It is going to cost me two, three, four times more money for getting the proper one I want. And the reason I am not going to use this one, it will do the trick for the basic duplicator key machines, however my Miracle A9S and also my ITL are code machines and they run circuit boards, they are like mini little computers on there. I am going to have to take it back now, it’s really really good but it’s a Modified Wave and I can’t use this on my computer key machines. I’m risking problems. I could be wrong, I am not going to take a chance, I will go out there and get the proper one for my locksmith service truck.

First aid kit for locksmiths. We are in our service vehicles all day long. It’s smart to have a first aid kit in your service truck. Also, you should have one in the house and you should have one in your personal car.

Everybody has their personal choices for a First Aid Kit and this is mine. I have a Smith and Weston folding knife with a glass breaker and seat belt cutter. I like having a black marker so you can write the person’s name on their forehead or time a tourniquet was applied, etc.

Some people like a couple of tourniquets in their kit. Also, I have my boo-boo kit, band-aids, butterfly straps, butterfly bandaids, alcohol wipes, iodine wipes, antibiotics, Tylenol, Advil, some stomach medicine, pair of gloves, scissors, tweezers, forceps, space blanket, Israeli bandages, quick clots, gauze, triangular bandage and more.

We are lucky in North America and most Western societies, we have the Good Samaritan Act, as long as you’re trying to help, in most cases you are not going to get sued, we are not doctors, we’re just trying to help.

Take a First Aid Course, methods, procedures and products are getting better every day to help people.

Mr. Locksmith Tests 5+ Car Key Programmers on 2014 Ford Mustang Mr. Locksmith™ White Rock

I am going to program in a key to a Ford Mustang. This is a 2014 Ford Mustang. We’re going to use a 2014 Ford Mustang, and we’re going to program automotive keys into the Ford. Always test your car first with a mechanical key, if it works, the ignition turns it, of course it won’t start it ’cause it’s a transponder, and then we make keys using our transponder key, and we’re gonna program it in. Right now, the mechanical key is perfect, transponder key, perfect. Now, let’s check it in the ignition. Put the key in the ignition, and of course it is not going start the car. But that’s cool. Put the transponder key, I’ve got it good, okay.

Let’s hook up the programing. So right now, I’m gonna use the Zed-Full, and we’re gonna program in our functional key. Okay, so I’ve plugged in the OBD II plug. Zed-Full is nice, sits on the steering wheel. That’s what I like about this one. Put the ignition key in, and we’ll start programming. Erase all keys, we can add a key, add two keys. Usually a 10-minute wait. We’ll test the key. And the sound of power, and we just made some money. A key program gonna use right now is the Auto ProPad. This is surprising, been one of our go-to machines. Right now it’s very very effective, let’s see how it does on the 2014 Mustang. We’re gonna program a key. Okay, we’re plugging it in the OBD II. This is the Auto ProPad. The key is in. Pretty simple menu. It should bypass, and success. And let’s give it a try. In position. There’s no 10 minute, it does the 10 minute bypass nicely. And success. Perfect. Let’s just try the other key. It starts the car perfectly. Auto ProPad, pass. Gonna use The MVP to program a 2014 Mustang transponder key. So this is The MVP Pro and has the super dongle. We’re just gonna plug into the OBD II port. Now there are two ways this thing comes in, it’s per token, or you get a monthly on it. We put on the security code. Now we wanna put the key in. Let’s see if it starts the car. And it’s perfect. And again, with this one you can add a key, erase keys. If you erase keys, you got to have two master keys ready to go. Okay, gonna use the IM100 to program the 2014 Ford Mustang. So this is the IM100, let’s see how it does. We’re gonna plug in the IM100 into the OBD II. Tell me when to click the key in. Now the IM100 will not do the bypass on the 10 minute bypass. So we have to actually wait 10 minutes, so we’re just going to let it cycle through for 10 minutes, and then we’ll see if it starts the car. Okay, let’s see if it works. Okay, IM100 works. But, it’s a 10 minute wait time. Unfortunately, it will not bypass in this version. Maybe the newer versions do but this is an older version, we’ll get our hands on the new version and see what happens. Okay, let’s program the Mustang with X-100. I’ll just plug it in, let’s see what happens. Typed everything down, let’s see if we got a communication now. No. Let’s give it a second try here, see if we can communicate. We typed everything up, we’ve plugged it in. Again, this is not never on of our main, it’s a backup to the backup to the backup. When everything else doesn’t fail, you start going through your backup machines. As we talked before, you need two machines for sure, key programmers. So, failed to communicate. We have a fail. We’re gonna program key to the 2014 Mustang. This is a SKP-900. Bought this, it has a highly rated for Nissan. So we bought it, knocked off a few Nissans, it was good. Let’s try it on the Mustang. SKP-900, turned it on, it’s all plugged into the OBD II. See how we go, old-style menu. Bypass the 10 minute or close onto the 10 minute. Okay, SKP-900, it wouldn’t do the 10 minute bypass. We waited for 10 minutes. And it is successful. So, but, we had to wait 10 minutes. Most of the car programmers can add a key, add a transponder key to the system. Most, if not all, were able to bypass the 10 minute wait time, which is a huge saving in times. As you can see, one just totally failed to communicate. We tried everything, had good luck with that on Hondas, didn’t do well on this 2014 Mustang. I’m gonna try all of these on several more Fords, and we’ll see how they do in other videos. But overall, everything did way better than I expected. I hope you enjoyed watching this video. Subscribe to my channel. Also, visit my website, and you can see what online locksmith training I have for beginners, intermediate and advanced, as well as my covert methods of entry, and my non-destructive methods of entry.
